  1. Select the location to drop the item.
  2. Select the item that you want to drag. Press and hold the trackpad/mouse while dragging it.

Include (add) items to the Dock:
Drag the item to the dock that you want to add. The items that you add to the dock are only aliases.
Note: alias is almost like a copy of the original item. When you open alias, original will open. Even if you delete the alias, the original item will be there on your Mac.
Delete items from the Dock:
Drag the item out of the dock until you see remove the icon. Alias only remove from the dock when you remove it. But original item will be there on your Mac.
Add item to the Finder sidebar:
Press and hold the Command key and drag an item to the favorites section of Finder sidebar. The items in the Finder sidebar are also aliases.
Remove items from the Finder sidebar:
Drag the item that you want to remove from the sidebar until remove icon appears.
Shift graphics or text in an email or document:
Select the picture/text that you want to move. Drag it to the new location where you want to place it.
