Can’t Turn Off Bluetooth on macOS Mojave (Fixed)


Many Apple users have a complaint that macOS Mojave Bluetooth won’t turn off. Some people said that Turn Bluetooth Off option is greyed out. Here I am going to tell you the solutions to fix this issue.
Fix 1: Restart your Mac and then turn off Bluetooth

  1. Go to Apple menu->Restart.
  2. Click “Restart” in the pop-up box. Wait until the process is finished.
  3. Click Bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
  4. Click “Turn Bluetooth Off”.

Fix 2: Turn off Bluetooth via System Preferences

  1. Go to Apple menu->System Preferences.
  2. Click Bluetooth icon.
  3. Click “Turn Bluetooth Off”.

Fix 3: Delete “com.apple.bluetooth.plist”

  1. Go to Finder->Go->Go to Folder.
  2. Enter ~/Library/Preferences in the pop-up box and then click “Go”.
  3. Scroll down to find com.apple.bluetooth.plist (the program you have problems with)
  4. Drag it into Trash Folder and then turn off Bluetooth.

Fix 4: Reset Bluetooth Module

  1. Press and hold Shift+Option keys and click Bluetooth icon simultaneously.
  2. Select “Debug”.
  3. Click “Reset the Bluetooth module”.
  4. Then restart your Mac via Apple menu->Restart.

Fix 5: Disconnect all paired Bluetooth Devices

  1. Press and hold Shift + Option keys and click Bluetooth icon simultaneously.
  2. Select Debug->Remove all devices.
  3. Click “Remove” in the pop-up box. Now your Mac will forget all paired devices & accessories.

Fix 6: Reset SMC
If your Mac has a non-removable battery,

  1. 1. Shut down your Mac by pressing the Power Button.
  2. 2. Press and hold the Shift + Control + Option + Power Button simultaneously.
  3. 3. Then release the keys at the same time.
  4. 4. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.

If your Mac has a removable battery,

  1. 1. Remove the battery out of your Mac.
  2. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds.
  3. 3. Insert the battery into your Mac.
  4. 4. Turn on your Mac.

Fix 7: Reset PRAM/NVRAM

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turned off.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing those keys until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Wait for some time. It may take 15-20 minutes.
  6. Then your mac will restart normally and then try to turn off Bluetooth.

Fix  8: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode
Restarting your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues in the Mac. But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key immediately after pressing the Power Button.
  4. You can see the Apple Logo on the screen. Don’t leave the Shift key when you see the Apple Logo.
  5. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  6. Select your User Account and then enter the Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.

Other Solutions:

  1. Reinstall Mojave.
  2. Restore your Mac to Factory Settings.
