No Sound After Mojave Update? Here’s the fix


Many Mac users have a complaint that Mac OS Mojave sound not working. The said that everything was fine before installing Mojave.  Here I am going to tell you the solutions for Mac OS Mojave sound problems.
Before trying these Solutions, restart your Mac via Apple Menu->Restart. Sometimes, restart itself will solve if any audio issues on your Mac.
Fix 1: Force Restart

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your mac shut down.
  2. Again press the Power Button to turn it on.

Fix 2: Check for internal speakers
Try this solution when no sound while listening via Mac’s built-in speakers.

  1. Unplug headphones/external speakers from your mac if connected.
  2. Go to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Sound->Output.
  3. Select “Internal Speakers”.
  4. Make sure that Output volume is full. Drag the slider to adjust the volume if the slider is on the left side.
  5. Make sure that Mute checkbox is not selected.
  6. Select “Show volume in the menu bar”.

Note: If you enable “Show volume in the menu bar” option, you can adjust the volume on your home screen itself.
Fix 3: Check for external speaker
Try this solution when you don’t hear a sound through external speakers.

  1. Connect the headphones/external speakers to Mac.
  2. Go to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Sound->Output.
  3. Make sure that you can see the name of the speaker that you connected. If you plug the headphones to mac, you can see Headphones under NameHeadphone port under Type.
  4. If headphone are not selected, select it first.
  5. Make sure that Output volume is full. Drag the slider to adjust the volume if the slider is on the left side.
  6. Make sure that Mute checkbox is not selected.

Note: If the plugged headphones/speakers name is not displayed, unplug the speaker and plug them again.
Fix 4: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode
Restarting your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues on Mac. but you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple menu-> Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key immediately after pressing the Power Button.
  4. You can see the Apple Logo on the screen. Don’t leave the Shift key when you see the Apple Logo.
  5. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  6. Select your User Account and then enter the Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.

Fix 5: Reset PRAM/NVRAM

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple menu-> Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing those keys until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Wait for some time. It may take 15-20 minutes.
  6. Now your mac will restart normally and check the sound

Fix 6: Reinstall macOS (Recovery Partition)

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to shut down your Mac.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Command + R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing Command + R keys until the Apple Logo appears.
  5. After that macOS Utilities windows will appear with 4 options. Tap “Reinstall macOS”.
  6. Tap “Continue”.
  7. You will be prompted to choose your hard disk/drive. If you are not asked to select your disk, tap “Show All Disks”. You may need to enter your Apple ID.
  8. Tap “Install”. Wait until the installation process is completed.
  9. Your Mac will restart after completing the installation.
