macOS Mojave Running Very Slow (Fixed)


Many Apple users have a complaint that Mac running slow after Mojave update. Some of them think that this is a big issue on their Mac. But it is not like that. Here I am going to tell you the solutions to fix this issue. If you have the same problem, this article will help you to fix it.
Solution 1: Check the storage and clean your hard drive
This problem may occur if your Mac doesn’t have enough free disc space in startup disk.

  1. Go to Apple menu->About This Mac->Storage.
  2. If storage is full, click “Manage”.
  3. Check the size of all apps and files.
  4. Delete unwanted files & apps that you are not using.

How to free up space on Mac?

  1. Clear all caches in your Mac.
  2. Delete everything in the Trash folder.
  3. Delete old Time Machine backups.

Solution 2: Reset SMC
If your Mac has a non-removable battery,

  1. Shut down your Mac by pressing the Power Button.
  2. Press and hold the Shift + Control + Option + Power Button simultaneously.
  3. Then release the keys at the same time.
  4. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.

If your Mac has a removable battery,

  1. Remove the battery out of your Mac.
  2. Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery into your Mac.
  4. Turn on your Mac.

SMC reset on iMac, Mac Mini, & Mac Pro

  1. Turn off your Mac.
  2. Disconnect the power cord.
  3. Wait for 20-25 seconds and then plug the power cord back in.
  4. Wait for 5 seconds and then turn on your Mac.

Solution 3: Reset PRAM/NVRAM

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turned off.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing those keys until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Wait for some time. Your Mac may take 15-20 minutes to restart.
  6. Then your mac will restart normally.

Solution 4: Fix disk errors in Recovery Mode

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button.
  3. Press and hold the Command + R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button until the Apple Logo appears.
  4. After that macOS Utilities window will appear with 4 options. Tap “Disk Utility”.
  5. Tap “Continue”.
  6. Select the disk/drive (Macintosh HD) that you want to repair.
  7. Select First Aid->Run. This action will check the disk for errors.
  8. Click “Done”.
  9. Close Disk Utility.
  10. Restart your Computer via Apple menu->Restart.

Solution 5: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode
Restarting your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues in the Mac. But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to turn off your Mac.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key immediately after pressing the Power Button.
  4. You can see the Apple Logo on the screen. Don’t leave the Shift Key when you see the Apple Logo.
  5. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  6. Select your User Account and then enter the Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.

Note: If it doesn’t workout, leave Safe Mode and then try next solution. To leave Safe Mode, restart your Mac via Apple menu->Restart. Wait until your Mac restarts.
Solution 6: Reinstall Mojave

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to turn off your Mac.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Command + R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing Command + R keys until the Apple Logo appears.
  5. After that macOS Utilities window will appear with 4 options. Tap “Reinstall macOS”.
  6. Tap “Continue”.
  7. You will be prompted to choose your hard disk/drive. If you are not asked to select your disk, tap “Show All Disks”. You may need to enter your Apple ID.
  8. Tap “Install”. Wait until the installation process is completed.
  9. Your Mac will restart after completing the installation.

Other Solutions:

  1. Create a new user account and use it.
  2. Downgrade Mojave to High Sierra/Sierra.
