Messages Out of Order on iPhone iOS 12


Some of the iPhone users reporting that iPhone text messages are not in chronological order. This is one of the common issues even I too faced this issue. Yet Apple not announced any reason for this problem. I tried a few steps to overcome the issue. Now I’m gonna share those tricks with you. Hope it will useful for you.

Solution 1: Force Restart/Hard Reset

iPhone 6

  1. Press and Hold the Home button.
  2. Press and hold the Wake/Sleep button when holding the Home button.
  3. Hold both buttons until you see the Black Screen.
  4. Wait for sometimes to see Apple Logo.

iPhone 7

  1. Press and hold the Wake/Sleep(Power) button at the right of your iPhone.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Button.
  3. Wait until the Apple Logo appears.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR

  1. Press Volume Up button and then release it quickly.
  2. Press Volume Down button and then release it quickly.
  3. Finally, press and hold the Side button( Wake/Sleep button) until the Apple logo appears.

Solution 2: Change Date & Time to Set Automatically

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Scroll down to see General and then tap it.
  3. Tap Date & Time.
  4. There you can see the option “Set Automatically”.
  5. Then toggle on (turn on) Set Automatically.

Solution 3:  Turn Off/On iMessage

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Scroll down to see Messages and then tap it.
  3. Turn off iMessage.

Solution 4: Restart your Device

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slide to power off screen appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your device.
  3. Again press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see an Apple Logo.
  4. After the restart, your device turn on the iMessage.

Solution 5: Reset Network Settings

  1. Launch Settings > General.
  2. Scroll down and click “Reset”.
  3. Select Reset Network Settings.
  4. Enter your Password.
  5. Tap “Reset Network Settings” in the pop-up box to confirm.

Note: This action will delete all WiFi password APN & VPN settings of your iPhone.

Solution 6: Turn On Setting Time Zone

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Scroll down to see Privacy and then tap it.
  3. Tap Location Services.
  4. Then turn on the Settings Time Zone.

Solution 7: Factory Reset

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Scroll down to see General and then tap it.
  3. Again scroll down to see Reset and then tap it.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. Now the pop-up box will appear with 3 options. If you want to Backup your device then tap Back Up Then Erase.
  6. If you have already taken a Backup then tap Erase Now.
  7. Wait until the process gets finished.

Note: This fix will remove all data from your device. Therefore, it is advisable to take a backup.

Solution 8: System Update

  1. Launch Settings->General.
  2. Tap on “Software Update”.
  3. If an Update is available, tap “Download and Install”.
