What if "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" is greyed out?
Mine is grayed out and can't uncheck it. What do I do?
I was able to fix this issue by deleting the users Mac Mail account and recreating it with the same credentials. I believe Apple has material on the Internet on how to solve this problem. Write down all the settings for your Mac Mail account before deleting. I took pictures with my smartphone of each page that had settings. After creating the Mac Mail account I used the pictures to transfer all settings.
It's easier to take a screenshot – click shift+cmnd+3 for full screen or shift+cmnd+4 for a section.
This fix worked perfectly, right away!
It seems unpredictable that many different fixes seem to work, or not work, with people with the same problem.
The internet is getting very messy, I'd say.
