Kernel Panic on macOS Mojave (Fixed)

 

While using the mac, unexpectedly it goes to restart. After that restarting their Mac it shows a pop-up message “Your computer restarted because of a problem”. This unknown error is known as a kernel panic. And many Apple users have reported the same problem on mac. After that, I have searched for some solutions to rectify it. Here, I’m gonna tell you some solutions to fix this issue.

What is the reason for this issue?

Kernel panic issue occurs because of faulty software installed on your Mac. This issue will continue until you find that faulty software.

Solution 1: Disconnect the third-party devices and uninstall the third-party Apps

The first solution is to disconnect the third-party devices except an Apple mouse and keyboard. And also uninstall the third-party apps, it helps to restart your Mac easily.

  1. Your Mac should have at least 20% of free space on the startup disc. 
  2. Uninstall all third-party apps, plug-ins, and drivers.
  3. Disconnect all (third-party) peripheral devices like printer, scanner, mouse, keyboard, webcam, USB, FireWire, etc from your Mac. (Except Apple mouse and keyboard).
  4. Then restart your Mac and check whether this problem occurred or not.

Note: After restarting your Mac, connect any one of the devices and restart your Mac. When you reconnect each device, restart your Mac and find which one causes this issue.

Solution 2: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode

Restarting your Mac in Safe Mode will help to fix many issues in the Mac. Note: But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to turn off your Mac.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key immediately after pressing the Power Button.
  4. And you can see the Apple Logo on the screen. Don’t leave the Shift key when you see the Apple Logo.
  5. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  6. Select your User Account and then enter your password to log in. FileVault is turned on, while you may need to log in twice.
  7. If your Mac successfully starts up, go to Apple menu->About This Mac->Software Update.
  8. Click the “Updates” option.
  9. Then click “Update All”.

Note: If it doesn’t work out, leave Safe Mode and then try to do the next solution. To leave Safe Mode, restart your Mac through the Apple menu->Restart. Wait until your Mac gets restarts.

Solution 3: Remove “IOVideoPocketCam.kext”

Remove the unwanted extension on the IOVideopocketCam.kext on your mac. To do that,

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Click Go->Go to Folder.
  3. Type /Library/Extensions and then click “Go”.
  4. Move the file “IOVideoPocketCam.kext” to Trash.

Solution 4: Reset the SMC

If your Mac has a non-removable battery, then try this one.

  1. First, shut down your Mac by pressing the Power Button.
  2. Simultaneously, press and hold the Shift + Control + Option + Power Button.
  3. Then release the keys at the same time.
  4. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.

If your Mac has a removable battery,

  1. Remove the battery out of your Mac.
  2. And press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery into your Mac.
  4. Then, turn on your Mac.

  1. Turn off your Mac.
  2. And disconnect the power cord.
  3. Wait for 20-25 seconds and then plug the power cord back in.
  4. Wait for 5 seconds and then turn on your Mac.

Solution 5: Reset the PRAM/NVRAM

This method will definitely work out to solve the issue on your Mac. Try this one.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turned off.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing those keys until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Wait for some time. Your Mac may take 15-20 minutes to restart.
  6. Then your Mac will restart normally.

Solution 6: Fix Disk Errors in Recovery Mode

  1. Hold down the Power Button until your Mac turns off.
  2. And press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Simultaneously press and hold the Command + R keys as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button until the Apple Logo appears.
  4. After that macOS utility window will show 4 options. Tap “Disk Utility”.
  5. And Tap “Continue”.
  6. Select the disk/drive (Macintosh HD) that you want to repair.
  7. Select First Aid->Run. This action will check the disk for errors.
  8. Click “Done”.
  9. Close Disk Utility.
  10. Restart your computer via the Apple menu->Restart.

Solution 7: Reinstall Mojave

Many of the Mac users suggested this method to solve the problem. They solved this issue by reinstalling the Mojave. So, try this one.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to turn off your Mac.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3.  Simultaneously press and hold the Command + R keys as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing the Command + R keys until the Apple Logo appears.
  5. After that macOS utility window will show 4 options. Tap “Reinstall macOS”.
  6. Tap “Continue”.
  7. Now you will be prompted to select your hard disk/drive. And if you are not asked to select your disk, then tap “Show All Disks”. You may need to enter your Apple ID.
  8. Tap “Install”. Wait until the installation process is completed.
  9. Your Mac will restart after completing the installation.
