iOS 12: Message Problems on iPhone and iPad

Common issues in iMessage:

Solution 1: Turn Off iMessage and Turn it on

  1. Launch “Settings”.
  2. Tap on “Messages” -> turn off “iMessage”.
  3. Wait for few seconds and turn it on back.

Solution 2: Force Restart
iPhone 6 and earlier
Press and hold the Home Button and Power Button (Sleep/Wake) until the Apple Logo Appears.
iPhone 7 & 7 Plus
Press and hold the Side Button and Volume Down Button until the Apple Logo appears.
iPhone 8, 8 Plus, & X

  1. Press the Volume Up Button and release it.
  2. Press the Volume Down Button and release it.
  3. Press and hold the Side Button until the Apple Logo appears.

Note: Don’t press “Volume Up” and “Volume Down” at the same time.
Solution 3: Force Quit iMessage
Double press the home button to close the app. Here you can see the closed apps. Now, you have to swipe up the screen to force close the apps. Then relaunch the iMessage app and check whether it’s work or not. If it works, then no problem. If not, then try below solution.
Solution 4: Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings->General->Reset.
  2. Tap “Reset Network Settings”.
  3. Enter the Passcode if required and tap “Reset Network Settings” in the pop-up box. After doing this restart your Phone.

Solution 5: Reset All Settings

  1. Launch “Settings”->“General”->“Reset”.
  2. Tap “Reset All Settings”.
  3. Enter your Restrictions Passcode.
  4. Tap “Reset All Settings” in the pop-up box.
  5. Again tap “Reset All Settings” to confirm.

Solution 6: Turn Off Reduce Motion

  1. Launch “Settings”.
  2. Tap “General” -> “Accessibility” -> “Reduce Motion”.
  3. Turn off “Reduce Motion”.

Solution 7: Check the Internet Connection
If you are using bad internet connection, you can’t send a message. So, you have to check the internet connection whether it’s speed or not. You can use either Cellular Data or Wi-Fi to send a message.
Solution 8: Check Date & Time

  1. Launch “Settings”.
  2. Tap “General” -> “Date & Time”.
  3. Set “Automatically”.

Solution 9: Delete the Conversation
If iMessage app is crashing, then delete the conversation first. To do so,

  1. Launch “Message” app.
  2. Open the conversation which you want to delete.
  3. Long press the message until a pop-up appears and click “More” option.
  4. Select the circle to delete the conversation.
  5. Another way to delete the conversation is to swipe the screen from right to left. You get a Delete option. Tap on it.

Solution 10: Sign Out iMessage and Sign In Back

  1. Launch “Settings” -> “Messages” -> “Send & Receive”.
  2. Sign Out of your Apple ID and then restart your phone.
  3. Finally, sign in back.

Solution 11: Refresh Airplane Mode

  1. Launch “Settings”.
  2. Turn on Airplane mode.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Finally, turn off Airplane Mode.

Solution 12: Sign Out Apple ID and Sign In Back

  1. Launch “Settings” -> “Apple ID” -> “iTunes & App Store”.
  2. Tap “Apple ID” -> “Sign Out” of Apple ID.
  3. Restart your Phone and sign in back.

Solution 13: Check for Software Update

  1. First, connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi or Cellular data.
  2. Open “Settings” app on your iPhone.
  3. Then click “General” -> click “Software Update”. If an update available here, you just click “Download and Install”.
  4. Next, enter your passcode if prompted.
  5. Click “Agree” to the Terms and Conditions.
  6. Again click “Agree” to begin the process.
