iMessages Not Working on Mac OS High Sierra? Here’s the fix


I updated my Mac to High Sierra before 2 months. Everything was fine until yesterday. Today morning I tried to send a message. When I am sending messages, I receive a message “Not Delivered”. But I can receive messages. One of the Mac user said some solutions to fix this issue. Here I am going to share those solutions with you.
Before trying these solutions, make sure that your network connection (Wi-Fi/Cellular data) is good.
Solution 1: Sign out of iMessage and then sign in

  1. Launch Messages app.
  2. Go to Messages->Preferences.
  3. Select “Accounts” tab.
  4. Click “Sign Out”.
  5. Click “Sign Out” in the pop-up menu to confirm.
  6. Then sign back in.

Solution 2: Turn on “Enable this Account”

  1. Launch Messages app.
  2. Go to Messages->Preferences.
  3. Select “Accounts” tab.
  4. Select the checkbox next to Enable this account.

Solution 3: Restart your Mac
Sometimes restart itself will solve these kind issues on Mac.

  1. Go to Apple Menu.
  2. Click “Restart”. Wait until your Mac restarts.

Solution 4: Force quit Messages

  1. Press and hold Command + Option + Esc keys to get Force Quit Applications window.
  2. Select “Messages”.
  3. Click “Force Quit”.
  4. Then launch Messages app and start sending messages.

Solution 5: Check for Software Update?

  1. Go to Apple Menu->About This Mac->Software Update.
  2. Click “Updates” tab.
  3. If Software Update is available, click “UPDATE”.

Solution 6: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode (Safe Boot)
Restart your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues on your Mac. But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple menu->Shut Down.
  2. Turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key as quickly as possible after you hear the startup sound. You can see the Apple Logo on the Screen.
  4. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  5. Enter your User Name & Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.
  6. Now check whether iMessages works or not.

Solution 7: Reset SMC
If your Mac has a non-removable battery,

  1. Shut down your Mac via Apple menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold the Shift + Control + Option + Power Button simultaneously.
  3. Then release the keys at the same time.
  4. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.

If your Mac has a removable battery,

  1. Remove the battery out of your Mac.
  2. Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery into your Mac.
  4. Turn on your Mac.

Solution 8: Reset NVRAM/PRAM

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple Menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing until you hear the startup sound for the second time.
