iMac Stuck on Apple Logo With Loading Screen/Spinning Wheel? Here’s the fix


Many Apple users have a complaint that their iMac stuck on Apple Logo with spinning wheel/black screen/white screen. They said this problem occurred after updating High Sierra. They said sometimes it stuck on full progress bar. Here I am going to tell you the solutions to fix this issue.
Solution 1: Force Restart

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turns off.
  2. Disconnect all peripheral devices like printer, scanner, mouse, keyboard, webcam, etc from your Mac.
  3. Then turn on your Mac.

Solution 2: Reset NVRAM/PRAM

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac shuts down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing until you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Solution 3: Reset SMC

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your mac turns off.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from your Mac.
  3. Wait for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Connect the power cord to Mac.
  5. Wait for 5 seconds and then turn on your iMac by pressing the Power Button.

Solution 4: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode (Safe Boot)
Restart your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues on your Mac. But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to turn off your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key as quickly as possible after you hear the startup sound.
  4. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  5. Enter your User Name & Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.

Solution 5: Fix disk errors in Recovery Mode

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turns off.
  2. Then Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Command + R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button until the Apple Logo appears.
  4. After that macOS Utilities window will appear with 4 options. Tap “Disk Utility” and then click  “Continue”.
  5. Select the disk/drive (Macintosh HD) that you want to repair.
  6. Select First Aid->Run. This action will check the disk for errors.
  7. Click “Done”.
  8. Close Disk Utility and then restart your Mac.

Solution 6: Use commands

  1. Turn off your Mac by pressing the Power Button.
  2. Then turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Command + S keys simultaneously as soon as possible after hearing the chime sound.
  4. Type mount -uw / and then click Enter.
  5. Type sync and then click Enter.
  6. Type reboot and then click Enter.

If it doesn’t work, try below commands. Click Enter after typing each command.
mount -uw / and then click Enter
mv /Library/Extensions/*.kext / and then click Enter
mv /Library/LaunchAgents/*.plist / and then click Enter
mv /Library/LaunchDaemons/*.plist / and then click Enter
Sync and then click Enter
reboot and then click Enter
Solution 7: Reinstall macOS High Sierra
Reinstalling high Sierra may solve your problem.

  1. Press and hold the Power Button to shut down your Mac. then turn on it.
  2. Press and hold the Command + R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after hearin the startup sound.
  3. Keep pressing Command + R keys until the Apple Logo appears.
  4. After that macOS Utilities windows will appear with 4 options. Tap “Reinstall macOS”.
  5. Tap “Continue”.reinstall-high sierra
  6. You will be prompted to choose your hard disk/drive. If you are not asked to select your disk, tap “Show All Disks”. You may need to enter your Apple ID.
  7. Tap “Install”. Wait until the installation process is completed.
  8. Your Mac will restart after completing the installation.

Other solutions:

  1. Make sure that your Mac has free space on the startup drive. Your Mac should have at least 20% of free space. If memory is full, this problem may occur.
  2. Create a new user account and use it.
  3. Check Apple warranty status. If your iPhone covers warranty, take it to the Apple Service Center.
  4. Make an Apple genius bar appointment.
