Fixed: High Sierra Slow Graphics Performance


I upgraded my Mac to High Sierra before two months. Everything was fine in the beginning. After that, I have to face different problem each day. One of the important problem is slow graphics performance. I won’t even play games on my Mac. one of the Mac user said some solutions to fix this issue. Here I am going to share those solutions with you.
The first thing you have to do is, Restart your Mac via Apple Menu->Restart. Most of the time restart itself will solve the problem.
Solution 1: Force Restart/Reboot your Mac

  1. Press and hold the Power Button until your Mac turned off.
  2. Wait for few seconds and then press the Power Button to turn it on.

Solution 2: Set Graphic Performance

  1. Go to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Energy Saver.
  2. Deselect “Automatic graphics switching” for both Battery and Power Adapter.high sierra slow graphics performance

If you disable “Automatic graphics switching” option, your Mac will use only high-performance graphics.
Solution 3: Reset NVRAM/PRAM

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple Menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing until you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Solution 4: Restart your Mac in Safe Mode (Safe Boot)
Restart your Mac in Safe Mode will fix many issues on your Mac. But you can’t use some features in Safe Mode.

  1. Turn off your Mac via Apple Menu->Shut Down.
  2. Turn on your Mac.
  3. Press and hold the Shift Key as quickly as possible after you hear the startup sound. You can see the Apple Logo on the Screen.
  4. Keep pressing the Shift Key until you see the Login Window.
  5. Enter your User Name & Password to login. You may need to login twice if FileVault is turned on.

Now check the graphics performance.
Solution 5: Reinstall High Sierra

  1. Press Power Button.
  2. Press and hold the Command+R keys simultaneously as soon as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  3. Keep pressing Command+R keys until the Apple Logo appears.
  4. After that macOS Utilities windows will appear with 4 options. Tap “Reinstall macOS”.
  5. Tap “Continue”.macos high sierra install stuck
  6. You will be prompted to choose your disk. If you are not asked to select your disk, tap “Show All Disks”. You may need to enter your Apple ID.
  7. Tap “Install”. Wait until the installation process is completed. Your Mac will restart after completing the installation.

Other Solutions:

  1. Book an Apple Genius Appointment to check and solve the issue.
  2. Try SMC Reset.
  3. Downgrade your Mac to Sierra.
