“An error occurred during activation. Try again” for FaceTime on macOS Mojave [Fixed]

Some of Mac Users had reported a problem that after upgrading macOS Mojave, they have been unable to login to FaceTime. Instead, they get “An error occurred during activation. Try again”.It seems to be a very frustrating issue for you right…? Well, here I gonna share some easy tricks with you. Hope it will be useful for you.

Fix 1: Turn Off and Turn On FaceTime

  1. Launch the FaceTime App on your Mac.
  2. Click FaceTime Menu and then choose Preferences.
  3. Under Primary Settings tab uncheck the checkbox next to “iPhone Cellular Calls”.
  4. Click Back and quit FaceTime.
  5. Wait for a few seconds.
  6. Then turn on FaceTime

Fix 2: Check for Date & Time

  1. Go to Apple Menu -> System Preferences.
  2. Tap “Date & Time”.
  3. Turn on “Set Automatically”

Note: Make sure that the time zone and city is correctly selected.
Fix 3: Sign Out and Sign In iCloud

  1. Launch Settings-> Apple ID(your name).
  2. Scroll down to find “SignOut” and then click it.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and Password.
  4. Tap “Sign Out” at the right Corner.
  5. Again tap “Sign Out” in the pop-up box to confirm the action.

Sign In:

  1. Launch Settings-> iCloud.
  2. Enter your Apple ID and Password.
  3. Tap “Sign In”.

Fix 4: Restart Wi-Fi Router or Hotspot
If you are using a wireless router,

  1. Disconnect the router from the power.
  2. To do it unplug the power cord from the back of the router. Wait for some time.
  3. Then plug the power cord into the router.

If you are using a wireless hotspot,

  1. Turn off the hotspot. Wait for 30 seconds.
  2. And then turn it on.

Fix 5: Change DNS Settings

  1. Go to Apple Menu ->System Preferences.
  2. Click “Network” and then select your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Tap “Advanced”.
  4. Open “DNS” and click “+” to add “Google DNS”.
  5. Enter and
  6. Finally, “Apply” changes.

Fix 6: Reset NVRAM/PRAM

  1. Turn your Mac via Apple Menu->Shut Down.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Then immediately press and hold the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously as quickly as possible after pressing the Power Button.
  4. Keep pressing until you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Fix 7: Check for Phone Number/Email Address
Check whether your phone number or mail address which are registered in FaceTime is correct.
Fix 8: Check Apple’s System Status page
Check Apple’s System Status page and find out whether there are any server issues.
Fix 9: Turn Off iCloud Keychain

  1. Go to Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> iCloud and the Account details.
  2. Now, deselect “Allow approving using Security Code”.
  3. Finally, go to each of your devices that are using iCloud Keychain and then turn off iCloud keychain for it.

Note: It is advisable to backup your data before doing this fix
Other Solutions:

  • Make sure that you are using the latest version of Software on your Mac.
  • Check whether your device is under any Warranty Status or not. If it covers under Warranty, then you can Contact Apple Support for further Repair or Replacement.
  • Make sure that you have a good and speedy internet connection.
  • If you are using any third-party firewall or security software disable it temporarily.
