Fixed: Cellular Update Failed error on iPhone XS, XR and XS Max


iPhone users have complained that they got an error “Cellular Update Failed” after iOS 12. I too had this same issue on my iPhone XS. whenever I try to connect cellular data on my iPhone, it says “Cellular Update Failed”. Somehow, I fixed this issue. In this article, I am going to tell you those solutions to solve this problem.
Solution 1: Force Restart

  1. Press the Volume Up Button and release it.
  2. Press the Volume Down Button and release it.
  3. Press and hold the Side Button until the Apple Logo appears.

Note: Don’t press “Volume Up” and “Volume Down” at the same time.
Solution 2: Enable and Disable Cellular Data

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap “Cellular Data”.
  3. Turn on and off it. Wait for few seconds and turn it on back.

Solution 3: Enable and Disable Airplane Mode

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Turn on Airplane Mode.
  3. Wait for few seconds and turn it off back.
  4. Another way is, go to Control Center and do this.

Solution 4: Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings -> General -> Reset.
  2. Tap “Reset Network Settings”.
  3. Enter the passcode if required.
  4. Again tap “Reset Network Settings” in the pop-up box to confirm.

Solution 5: Remove and Reinsert the SIM
When the cellular data not working on your iPhone, remove the SIM from your iPhone. Before removing, shut down your phone properly and then do this. Using Pin, remove your SIM from the slot. There is any dust or water you just clean it by using the cotton cloth. After that, reinsert the SIM and try to connect the cellular data.
Solution 6: Restart your iPhone

  1. Press the power button and either volume up or down button until getting a slider.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your device.
  3. Wait for 20 to 30 seconds.
  4. To turn on your device, press and hold the power button until see an Apple logo.

Solution 7: Update  Carrier Settings

  1. Go to Settings -> General -> About.
  2. If an update is available here, you just update it.

Solution 8: Try to Update with IPSW File

  1. Download “IPSW” file.
  2. Then open iTunes on your iPhone.
  3. Now, connect your iPhone to Mac via USB cable.
  4. In iTunes Screen, click on the “iPhone” icon.
  5. To choose IPSW file, press OPTION + Update button in iTunes for Mac. For Windows, SHIFT + Update button in iTunes.
  6. Find the IPSW file on your Mac.
  7. Click “Update” to current iOS.
  8. Finally, allow “iTunes” to complete this installation process.

Solution 9: Restore your iPhone
Before doing this back up your device because this action will delete the information from your iPhone.

  1. First, connect your iPhone to the Mac.
  2. Then open iTunes on your Mac.
  3. Click iPhone icon at the top.
  4. Now, click the Summary tab at left corner.
  5. Tap “Restore iPhone”.
  6. Then iTunes will restore your iPhone.
  7. When your phone restarts, you can see a few options. You have to select “Set Up as New iPhone”.
