Assigned ringtone Not Working on iOS 12? Here's the fix


Many Apple users have a complaint that assigned ringtone not working after iOS 12 update on iPhone/iPad. They said that purchased ringtones are on their iPhone. They can select the purchased ringtone but their iPhone uses only default ringtone when getting calls. One of the iPhone users said some solutions to fix this issue Here I am going to share those solutions with you.
Before trying these solutions,

  1. Make sure that your phone is not in Silent Mode.
  2. Check the ringtone volume.

Solution 1: Set ringtone
Change your ringtone to default.

  1. Open Settings->Sounds/Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Tap “Ringtone” under SOUNDS AND VIBRATION PATTERNS.
  3. Select default ringtone under RINGTONES.

Hard Reset
iPad, iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus, and earlier
Press and hold the Home Button and Power Button (Sleep/Wake) until the Apple Logo Appears.
iPhone 7 & 7 Plus
Press and hold the Side Button and Volume Down Button until the Apple Logo appears.
iPhone 8, 8 Plus, & X

  • Press the Volume Up Button and release it.
  • Press the Volume Down Button and release it.
  • Press and hold the Side Button until the Apple Logo appears.

Choose the purchased ringtone

  1. Open Settings->Sounds/Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Tap “Ringtone” under SOUNDS AND VIBRATION PATTERNS.
  3. Select purchased ringtone.

Solution 2: Delete ringtones via iTunes.

  1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes through PC or Mac.
  2. Choose Tones and erase all the purchased ringtones.
  3. Click “Sync”. Disconnect your phone from PC Mac after sync is completed.
  4. Then go to Settings->Sounds->Ringtone->Download All Purchased Tones.
  5. Then all songs will be downloaded to your iPhone.
  6. Now set selects a ringtone from the purchased songs.

Solution 3: Select a purchased song for some contacts

  1. Launch Contacts app.
  2. Click Contacts icon.
  3. Select a contact randomly.
  4. Tap “Edit” at the right-upper corner of the screen.
  5. Tap “Ringtone”.
  6. Select the purchased song and then click “Done”.
  7. Do it for some contacts and check whether the purchased ringtones are working or not.

Solution 4: Download a new ringtone

  1. Go to iTunes Store->Search.
  2. Search the ringtone that you want.
  3. Tap on the price.
  4. Tap “Purchase”.
  5. Enter your Apple ID and Password.
  6. Tap “Sign In”.
  7. Then follow the screen instructions to download the song.
  8. Now set this purchased tone as a ringtone and check whether it is working or not.

Solution 5: Reset All Settings

  1. Go to Settings->General->Reset.
  2. Tap “Reset All Settings”.
  3. Enter your passcode and restrictions passcode.
  4. Tap “Reset All Settings”.
  5. Again tap “Reset all Settings” to confirm.

Note: This action will reset all Wi-Fi Networks & Passwords, APN & VPN Settings, and Cellular Settings of your iPhone.
Other Solutions:

  1. Downgrade iOS 12 to 11
  2. Make an Apple genius bar appointment.
