Fixed: Dictation Microphone has X next to it and does to work iPhone
Posted: August 14, 2024 | Updated: November 11, 2024The microphone icon in the Messages app has an x next to it and won't work. Users can't use the voice dictate feature. in notes, browser search. But the mic is fine working with calls.
Solutions
Solution 1: Change the keyboard from US English to any other one
This problem mostly happened in US English keyboards. So change the English keyboard to another country like English (Canada) or English (UK).
If you face this problem in your country keyboard, delete the keyboard and re-add it again.
Solution 2: Dictation may be already on
This icon indicates dictation is already active. Tapping this icon will stop the dictation.
Solution 3: All mics in Screen Time "Content & Privacy Restrictions"
- Go to Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Choose "Microphone".
- Select the "Allow Changes" option. Make sure it has a checkmark next to it.
Solution 4: Delete "Siri and dictation History". Then re-record your voice to enable Siri to recognize it.
- Go to Settings -> Siri & Search
- Choose "Siri & Dictation History" in the ASK SIRI section.
- Choose the "Delete Siri & Dictation History".
Solution 5: Turn off the iPhone for 3 minutes. Then turn it back on.
