Fix : Disk erase failed with the error invalid request – Mac


When MacBook Pro users try to erase their external hard drive and reformatting it to MS-DOS (fat) using Disk Utility, they getting error message like “Disk erase failed with the following request: invalid request”

How to fix Disk erase failed with the error invalid request issue on Mac

  1. From the Partition tab, pick a partition scheme (# of partitions)
  2. Scroll down to bottom above the + and – signs.  There’s now a choice that says “Options”.
  3. Click Options and pick “GUID Partition Table” instead of “Master boot record”.

So if I format the disk using exFAT or FAT32, using GUID Partition Table – will I still be able to read/write to the disk with both Mac and PC?
