Fixed : Can't delete IMAP emails on iPhone & iPad


When iOS users try to delete IMAP emails, they getting popup error message like “Unable to move messages to trash”, chances are you need to set the INBOX path prefix”. But they don’t face this kind of problem in their Mac computer.

Solution  1: If you getting “chances are you need to set the INBOX path prefix” error

  1. Launch Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select the IMAP account and choose Advanced.
  4. Scroll down and tap the ‘IMAP Path Prefix’ filed. Enter the word INBOX in capitals.
  5. Press ‘< Account‘ at the top left of the screen and click Done.
  6. Thats all.

Solution 2: Set Delete Mailbox to Trash

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar and choose the email account you need to fix.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Scroll down and select “Advanced”.
  4. Ensure set “Deleted Mailbox” is to Trash.iPhone set delete mailbox to trash
