Adjust Netflix Audio, Subtitles and Captions on Apple TV


If you want to enable subtitles and Closed Captions + SDH on your Apple TV’s will require that your TV have software version 5.0 or later installed on the device. So update your Apple TV OS to latest version via Setting ->General ->Update Software.

If you want to adjust alternative audio and subtitles while streaming on Apple TV:

  1. Press and hold the Center button on the Apple tv remote.
  2. Choose subtitles language or Preferred audio options.

If you adjust closed captions +SDH while streaming on Apple TV:

  1. Press and hold the Center button on the Apple tv remote.
  2. Choose Preferred closed caption +SDH .

How to adjust and customize closed captions and subtitles

  1. You can adjust Closed Captions + SDH via Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Closed Captions + SDH before they can adjusted in Netflix app. Closed captions apple TV
  2. It allow you to change the appearance of the closed captions and subtitles on Apple TV via Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Subtitles and Captioning -> Style.

If you are using remote app on iPhone or iPad to control Apple TV, you can enable captions by clicking square box at SW corner of the screen. Then Scroll down and choose English [CC].

Note: In older version of Apple TV iOS you can adjust settings via the following steps.

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Audio & Video.
  2. Scroll down and find “Subtitle language” and choose “English”.
  3. Scroll down and find “Closed Captions” and choose “On”.
